What is SchoolMessenger?

SchoolMessenger provides our district with communication products to include our notification system, district and school websites, and student email monitoring. SchoolMessenger provides a trusted platform for our district to engage parents and other district stakeholders.

SchoolMessenger Communicate is the notification system that allows us to communicate with parents and staff from weather emergencies to include school closures and/or delays to general information to include school/district happenings and upcoming events.

SchoolMessenger Presence is the website side of our provider. Each school has a website to aid in marketing and communicating school operations, including events, policies, and class communications.

SchoolMessenger Communicate

SchoolMessenger Communicate allows individual schools and the district to send callouts to advise parents about upcoming school/district events, school performances, emergencies, and other happenings. This notification system is used to send calls and emails. Text messages will be allowed soon for emergency purposes only. These are the primary communications methods we will use to notify student families and staff about closures, delays as well as other important announcements.

The District has Launched SMS Text Messages for Emergency Purposes ONLY

The district will launch the text messaging feature in SchoolMessenger Communicate that will allow emergency communications to be delivered during emergency situations only. Parents and high school students of impacted schools, as well as district personnel who work in the field, will receive text notifications.

"Broadcast" is the term used for communication sent through the system and they can be coded in the following ways: General, Attendance, Food Service, School Hours Emergency, and Non-School Hours Emergency. Broadcasts coded as emergencies will be sent to all phone numbers on file for the intended recipients. An email notification will be sent for phone broadcasts. This permits you to be able to listen to the call sent without answering the actual phone call.

The Process

High school students, parents, and district staff members with cell phone numbers on file will receive an opt-in message on October 3, 2018, that will require a "Y" or "Yes" response to begin receiving emergency text messages. When phone numbers on file change, a new opt-in message will be sent to the new phone number receive consent to participate.

How to Update Contact Information

Parents, please make sure that your contact information (home phone day/work phone, cell phone, and email address) on file is correct. Select this link to visit our Registration page to update contact information, including your cell phone number, for your child/children currently enrolled in our school. (Go to the third bullet under Returning Students.) You would need to complete an update for each child.

Please note:  Only the phone number listed as your home phone number in PowerSchool will receive non-emergency calls. (We will enable a system soon that will allow parents to manage preferences to receive callouts and even add contact information.)

When will I receive emergency text messages from the District?

Text messages will be sent by the district when emergency situations (outlined below) impact your child's school. The purpose of these messages is to advise when something has happened and when it's over. A follow-up call will be sent when details have been confirmed.

  • Prolonged Code Yellow  (Ex: police activity in the area, police investigation on campus, on-campus search, suspicious person in the area)
  • Code Red (Ex: suspicious person on campus, possible weapon on campus, shots fired on campus)
  • Code Green (Ex: bomb threat)
  • Prolonged Utility Outages (Ex: phone, power, and/or water outage)
