Burke High School to Host Raven Saunders Viewing Party

Who: Media outlets are welcomed and encouraged to join us for an Olympics viewing party featuring Raven “Hulk” Saunders, local athlete, Ole Miss student, and CCSD graduate.

What: Join us at Burke High School to watch and celebrate hometown star athlete, Raven Saunders, as she goes for the gold in the shot put at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The two-time NCAA outdoor champion is one of 26 athletes competing for 12 spots in the finals.

Raven is an Ole Miss student-athlete and a CCSD graduate having attended Memminger Elementary, Stono Park Elementary, West Ashley Middle, and Burke High School. During her time at Burke, she won multiple state championships, was a high school All-American, and in 2014, was named the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Player of the Year.

When: Friday, August 12, 2016; Doors will open at 7:45 a.m. The shot put qualifying prelims will begin at 9:05 a.m., with the finals scheduled for Friday evening.

Depending on the results of Friday morning’s prelims, Burke High School will issue a statement on a viewing party for the finals, which start at 9:00 p.m.
