Welcome Home Ceremony for Raven Saunders

Who: Media outlets are welcomed and encouraged to join us for a press conference and ceremony honoring Raven “Hulk” Saunders and her accomplishments in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

What: A press conference and ceremony will be hosted by Burke High School to welcome home Olympic athlete and NCAA champion, Raven Saunders. She finished 5th overall in the women’s shot put competition in Rio, and set a personal best with a throw of 19.35 meters in the finals.

City of Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and CCSD Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait will give remarks during the event, followed by an opportunity for Burke and Simmons-Pinckney students to interact with Raven and discuss her experience at the Olympics.

Parking for the event will be available in the lot closest to the West Entrance of Burke High (next to Johnson-Hagood Stadium). Please refrain from parking in the bus loop in front of Burke High School’s South Entrance on Fishburne Street.

Please use the school’s South Entrance on Fishburne Street to enter for this event.

When: Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
