CCSD Status Following Hurricane Matthew

Charleston, SC — Thank you for your patience concerning Charleston County School District (CCSD) students and employees, and your well-wishes for our first responders during Hurricane Matthew.

This has been a trying time for our community, but our operations staff literally worked around the clock to make sure schools and facilities throughout the district were secured before the storm, monitored during the storm, and if needed, repaired after the storm.

After a thorough inspection of Charleston County School District facilities conducted on Sunday, we expect to resume normal school operations Tuesday, October 11, 2016. As we publish this statement, some of our schools do not have power. We will issue an update by 4:00 PM Monday if there are any schools that may not be able to reopen.

Messages regarding employee responsibilities for Monday have been sent to CCSD email addresses.

SHELTERS: All schools that were used as shelters (with the exception of the old Burns site that is no longer used for students) will be professionally cleaned and disinfected before teachers and students return.

MAKE-UP DAYS: By law and State Board Policy, we are required to make up a certain number of missed school days. Make-up days for missed school due to Hurricane Matthew will be determined at a later date.

Schools will reopen Tuesday. If certain sites cannot reopen for any reason, parents of students at those sites will be contacted as soon as possible regarding alternate arrangements.

Transportation staff will review the most updated list of road closures tomorrow and look at how they affect our current routes.

School menus are subject to change this week based on the scheduling of food deliveries.

Thank you for your understanding and support of the students, teachers, and staff of CCSD.
